This is such a clever, gripping spy novel, but it was only when I reluctantly closed the book & instantly checked to see what else Mr. McCloskey had written that I realised that “The Seventh Floor” is actually the 3rd in a series. So back tracking is now on the …
Some things have to be celebrated and shouted from the rooftops. Like when there’s a new book from the uber-talented Jake Needham. And not only a new book, but the first in a brand new series. Yup, that’s definitely reason to cheer. “Habeus Corpus” is the first in what I …
I am a huge fan of Daniel Silva’s Gabriel Allon series, and to have a new book landing during these locked-down-pandemic-y days was a great treat. What was especially interesting were Mr. Silva references to the pandemic in the book, making this the first novel I have read which is …
Cards on table time. I am absolutely not a fan of Melania Trump, with her permanent scowl and penchant for issuing the very occasional terse and trite comment, but since I am not an American, so not tax-funding her lifestyle, I can’t really complain. About her apparent lack of purpose. …

Not quite sure how or why I’d never read any Colin Forbes before. Bit of (probably unnecessary) scene-setting before I start. This big, satisfying chunky novel was bought years ago, in a second hand bookshop in Johannesburg, when we lived there, and has travelled back to India with us, and …
Obviously the title of the book has something to do with it. Even at my age, who can resist being seen reading something with such an in-your-face title? “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck” certainly delivers on the shock value, with the F word peppering the earlier chapters, …
“Today will be different” is a fun read, with many laugh-out-loud moments, & a main character who reaches out from the pages of the book & grabs you with both hands. Eleanor Flood, almost 50 & pretty off-the-wall in her behaviour and outlook, is married to lovely, calm, capable Joe …
What an unusual book “Eligible” is. Unusual because it is an undoubtedly clever book, whilst being simultaneously rather obvious, and yet overall the book is totally compelling, because you “know” all the characters in the book. So well. So, so well. You “know” the plot. You “know” how it will …
